Just wanted to stop in to say "hi" to my fellow clansman.
My History:
My father was Angus William (Willie) Rankin of Mabou Harbour Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia DOB Jan 1927 Deceased 2000 decendant of John "The Immigrant" Rankin.
Our family history can be found in the pages of Mabou Pioneers Volumes 1 & 2:
A Genealogical Tracing of Some Pioneer Families Who Settled in Mabou and District (Hardcover) by A.D. MacDonald
I currently reside in Toronto, Ontario and have carried on our family name with the birth of a son Brian William Rankin DOB 30/08/77 Toronto, Ontario who in turn had a son Tyler William Rankin. They currently reside in Ajax, Ontario.
My third cousins are the Juno Award winning celtic musical group "The Rankin Family" of Mabou, Nova Scotia.

Thanks for a great site! Looking for information on my GGG Grandparents, Roderick(Rory)McLean and his wife, Catherine MCEachern. He was born about 1815 and she was born abt. 1818. On the census records it lists their birthplace as Nova Scotia. Have been told by others they came from Cape Breton, but there is no documents. In the 1861 Canadian Census for Madawaska Parish, Victoria County, Canada, it lists Roderick McLean age 46, Catherine 44, Angus 10, and Catherine 11, John McEachern 24,Daniel McEachern 20, all born Nova Scotia. Hannah Laughton 14 Servant, Native.
Roderick McLean and Catherine McEachern are also listed as God Parents for: Thomas Casey b.1854 son of Patrick Casey and Charlotte Dionne. In 1856 John McEachern and Catherine McLean are
God Parents for Catherine Casey, dau of Patrick Casey. 1853 Roderick McLean and Catherine McEachern are God Parents for
Marcelline Adams, dau of Peter Adams and Joanne Whitin (Whiten). They are God parents in 1856 for Elizabeth Corno dau of Jean Corno and Julie Michaud.
Their daughter, Catherine McLean married Daniel Chisholm s/o Angus Chisholm and Catherine McCarron, born Nova Scotia.. Does anyone have any connection or info on these ancestors??? Thanks Carol |

I am looking for information of my greatmother, Mary MacLean, born about 1845 at Whale Cove, Inverness County, Nova Scotia, Canada; died before 1878. She was married18 November 1867 to my greatfather Andrew Moore, Jr., born about 1839; died 17 July 1924/1925 in Pleasant Bay, Inverness County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Hi, just a little update i had my info wrong on brief bio. My father was a mixed farmer on lot 14 Arlington p.e.i.. 5 generations from the isle of Mull.
Thought that i would share some exciting news to all my relatives out there. My family 4 kids ,husband left the dogs at home !Visited the Isle of Mull this summer in June. Was it cold... Go in August it has to be warmer, it rained so hard one of my kids almost blew into the sea.
MWe had an exciting adventure exploring my Scotish roots. My holiday goal of course was the isla of Mull, my mission to see the Duart Castle. The kids were surprised when they walked the castle of relatives from long ago. We saw pictures on the wall of long ago relatives. Kids picted out facial features similiar to my uncles. We left Scotland with Maclean tartan everything! We has a great time we rented a motor home for 4 weeks, with sat nav an off we went. Loved it.So Go you will have a great time. take care Belinda |

I am trying so hard to find my grandfather's family history and getting no where. Ernest McLean is his name. Moved to Maine, I believe from New Brunswick. May have been born in Scotland and if not, his father most likely was. It is truly a mystery. He died sometime around 1936 in Maine. My dad was only about 6. Allen C. McLean, 83, of Spotsylvania County passed away peacefully Monday, June 26, 2006, at his residence.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gladys M. McLean; his two sons, Allen Steve McLean and his wife, Martha, of Florence, S.C., and Timothy Cole McLean and his wife, Karen, of Apopka, Fla.; his three daughters, Brenda M. Blough and her husband, Clifford, of Spotsylvania County, Deborah Sue Ogé and her husband, David, of Shreveport, La., and Teresa McLean Smith and her husband, Donald, of Fort Lewis, Wash.; four brothers of Hope Mills, N.C.; and four sisters of Hope Mills. Four of his brothers preceded him in death. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Allen was loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. He was a 30-year veteran and was a 101st Airborne survivor of Normandy. If your fimiliar with the documentary "BAND OF BROTHERS" He was one of those Soldiers. He was in the Korean War as well as the Vietnam War. McLean was awarded the LEGION OF MERIT which is right under the Congressional Medal of honor.He also was a lifetime member of the Non-Commission Officers of America and the Disabled American Veterans.
A memorial service will be held at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Spotsylvania Chapel, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 28.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Mary Washington Hospice.

Stumbled across your great site when trying to research the MacLean side of my family - my paternal grandmother Mary Ann Flora MacLean b. Glasgow approx 1893 - married F. A. Roberts in New Westminster BC in 1915) - I have traced the family back through her father (my g/grandfather) Donald MacLean, a policeman, and have recently discovered the family was from North Uist. Alexander MacLean d. 1880 and Christina (McVicar) MacLean d. 1891 were my g/g grandparents - both died on North Uist. I'm trying to plan a trip over - it's turning out to be a challenge!

My Mother's parents (John Thomas McLean, and Bessie Roy) were born in Chatham, NB. Mom was Margaret May McLean - born in Boston, in 1919. Roi/Roy and Sherard are family names as well. As a maritime historian and professional ship model maker, I have fairly thoroughly researched the Canadian tern (3-mast) schooner, McLean Clan (also named Irene Forsythe, and IX-93 while a Q-ship in the US Navy, WWII, and later, Santa Clara under the Cuban flag. Found your site quite by accident - a lucky accident. The recently deceased cousin of my Mother, Muriel Lewis of Arlington, MA says that the "McLean's were Scot's sheep theives from the North of Ireland." Our family is from the Miramichi region. I've never been down that way, but maybe some day. |

Since I see others posting missing
MacLeans here, I guess I'll post my
brief history too. I am the granddaughter of Thomas Leonard Maclean,
son of James out of Pictou. I research
the following family names in relationship to my own MacLean roots:
Bowdridge, Billard, MacPhail, MacLean.
Family history links us to Saskatewan,
Ontario, PEI, Newfoundland and Rhode Island.
Original immigrant named William.
Others may contact me via the blethers
or genealogy forums of MacNet.

My mother was a MacFadyen, her mother was Barbara Ellen MacLean from Brae, Lot 9 in PEI. Barbara Ellen and John MacFadyen emigrated to the Boston area. It great to have a contact such as this with others in Atlantic Canada. |
